First Five Weeks
Hello all! I am sorry you haven’t heard from me before now; as you can guess, I have been pretty busy between my internship, job, classes, and capstone.
My internship consists of working with backlogged oral histories that are a part of the Institutional Memory Collection at UNC Greensboro. I will be transcribing audio or video according to the standards set, editing and proofreading previously completed transcriptions, uploading finished transcripts to the Oral History Metadata Synchronizer or OHMS, syncing transcripts to their matching audio, and working on indexing the metadata. While this may seem like a lot of work, and there are some things I did not elaborate on, every step fits hand in hand and flows smoothly.

The past few weeks, I have been working on syncing audio with the corresponding transcript. I enjoy this work as it is kind of like a game of eye spy and a test of speed at the same time. It is a challenge, and if there is one thing I like, it’s a challenge. I have also been converting transcripts produced by REV from a “txt” format to a word document to create an edited and polished transcript that includes a header, page numbers, and fully edited content. I focus mainly on correcting format, spellchecking names, and making sure numerals like dates and amounts are correct. Once I finish the transcription, I convert it back into a “txt” file and upload it to OHMS, where I sync the audio.
I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot over the past five weeks, and I am looking forward to seeing what else I learn and achieve in the upcoming months.
